Commences power distribution in Bhiwandi from 26th January, 2007

Bhiwandi, January 27th, 2007:
Torrent Power has commenced distributing power to 1.6 lakh customers in Bhiwandi from 26th January, 2007. The company had recently signed the Distribution Franchisee Agreement with MSEDCL for Bhiwandi circle. This agreement is the first of its kind public-private partnership not only in Maharashtra but in the country.

Mr. Murli Ranganathan, Director, Torrent Power, assures the citizens of Bhiwandi: "It is our honour to be serving the Bhiwandi circle. Torrent Power will now endeavour to play a role in the overall development of Bhiwandi."

Torrent Power currently distributes 7 billion units power to over 18 lakh customers in the cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat in Gujarat. The company is implementing an 1130 MW gas-based greenfield generation project near Surat which is expected to be commissioned by the third quarter of 2007. Torrent Power has stakes in the entire value chain of the power business, viz. Generation, Transmission and Distribution, and has recently won the EN Power "Best Power Distribution Management Company" Award.
