All objects emit heat energy by infrared radiation. Thermal
Imaging System converts invisible Infrared radiation into
a visible image. Thermal imaging is typically performed
with the IR imaging radiometer. IR imaging radiometer
detector converts incoming radiation to an electrical/
digital signal.
Torrent Power AEC employs Thermography to all its
EHV/HV electrical installation over last seven years with
excellent result and improved reliability. Thermography
measures, and produces an accurate image of the Hotspot/s
with its location on the installation/equipment being
scanned on a Personal Computer (PC) screen kept at remote
place.
This method has been found effective for locating the
Hotspot/s in electrical equipment indicating looseness
of contacts, oxidation, mismatch, bimetallic effect, inadequate
rating of connector etc. and thereby getting early warning
signals enabling timely preventive/corrective action to
prevent failure/fault. As a consequence reliability of
the network improves tremendously.
