| Torrent Power has entered into a joint venture with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) to form a company named Torrent Power Grid Ltd. for implementing a 400 kV transmission system to evacuate power from the SUGEN plant to various off take centers and for connectivity with the national grid for exports to other states. Torrent Power has 74% stake while PGCIL has 26% stake in the venture.
The project is spread across a length of 249 Kms and is being implemented in a phased manner. Phase I of the project comprises of the 28 km Vapi Jhanor LILO (Line-in Line-out) while Phase II comprises of the 80 km Jhanor- Dehgam line. While phase I was commissioned in March 2009, phase II was commissioned a year later. Phase III that comprises of a 141 km line connecting phase II with the Pirana substation of PGCIL is currently under implementation.
TPGL has also firmed up ambitious plans to further strengthen its presence in the power transmission business and is gearing up to participate in upcoming transmission projects.
Torrent Power has laid a 129 km transmission line from SUGEN to Surat and another to GETCO.
